24k gold plated zomorphic necklace
SINU Crustacean Necklace
The SINU people emerged in the fertile flood plains of the Caribbean lowlands of present-day northern Colombia. Collectively the various Sinú groups or communities, as well their ancestral territory, are also referred to as the ZENU, GRAN ZENU or FINZENU.
This necklace represents a replica from the original zoomorphic figure in gold from the SINU pre-columbian civilization of Colombia.
The term zoomorphic refers to the animal-like body and human face. These are common characteristics of pre-columbian art pieces and refer to shamanism. It has been suggested that the animal references of this piece relate to crustaceas.
The original pendant can be found in the Museum of Gold in Bogota, Colombia.
