Palmas Earrings are 24k gold plated over brass/bronze
Palmas means Palms in Spanish.
Palmas earrings are designed after the very famous wax palms of Colombia. They are considered a national and emblematic palm of the country and one of the tallest in the world.
The wax palm can grow to a height of 45 m (148 ft) —or rarely, even as high as 60 m (200 ft) and provide habitats for many unique life forms, including endangered species such as the yellow-eared parrot.
The wax palm has a long history in the indigenous civilizations in Colombia. It was previously used as a construction material to build fishing canoes, vases to carry water and plates, nowadays many indigenous people there still grow their own palms or similar species for more artistic itmes, such as plates andjewelry accessories.
The wax palm is now an endangered species as well.
